South African artist Candice Brietz was an artist that one of my tutors introduced me to when we were discussing ideas for setting up a final installation piece for my final Abstract Gender outcome. I found her work really interesting and dynamic. Her website shows you a large range of her video work which includes many sequential installation pieces. One of my favourite works is her ‘Jack Nicholson’ feature comprised of seven screens in total, made up of clips of the actors many characters. An extremely clever dialogue is created that seems to speak of the human condition extremely well with the conversation asking more questions than giving answers. A really clever work. I found a youtube video documenting the work below but you can see the piece in full on her website.
