The Gutter Book

An experimental book I created after questioning what would happen if you were solely left with the gutter. How would this alter your reading experience? In observing a variety of panel arrangements from Graphic Novels I physically removed the panel content, literally subtracting that panels so that only the white space of the gutter around and in-between panels remained. As these scans demonstrate, as you turn the pages of the book the physical act of reading meant that the viewer controlled the ‘content’ – pages interacted with each other in an interesting manner as you saw through the panels to create overlapping structures of the gutter.
