Fiona Banner was an artist suggested to me in discussion over my dissertation subject and in particular the primary focus on ‘the gutter.’ The term which refers to the ‘gap’ between the graphically illustrated panels within the Graphic Novel genre connected to Banner’s work ‘The Anatomy of a Book’ (2009) and ‘The Anatomy of a Page’ (2008) which highlights the structural elements of the book as an object and therefore draws attention to the space which isn’t conventionally prioritised.

Banner explores the limitation of words as a form of expression within her work in a range of different media which is interesting in regards to my ‘Book of Ideas’ as I have been carefully considering the ‘reading experience’ and how I can play/push the boundaries of a book as an object for information.’
